Hello my natural sisters and my sisters that want to go natural but are scared of the fallout, and I mean that literally and figuratively. You don’t have to cut all your hair off to go natural and you don’t have to get locks unless that’s the style you want.
I’m starting with hair because going natural with my hair is what got me interested in a total natural life style. I will be posting quite a bit about natural hair because I’m always getting stopped by women in the store asking me what I use on my hair and my daughter’s hair.
Ladies you don’t have to have what I call Wash n Go hair to look like you have Wash n Go hair either. People, think I have Wash n Go hair and I’m telling you I have what is considered African curly hair. That is hair that has really tight curls. I won’t go into the structure of the hair shaft unless I get requests but for right now just know that I had to learn how to be happy nappy. My mother and my daughter have Wash n Go hair and now my hair looks like their hair.
Rule number one is moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. African Curly Hair or (ACH) needs water and oil. So, you will have to start a routine that will allow you to wet your hair more and use natural oils like olive oil, shea butter, almond oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, etc. I don’t mean commercial products with a drop of these natural oils I mean, you will have to go to places like Whole foods, Spouts, Trader Joes or maybe order online to get these oils. Stay out of the Beauty and Barber supply stores because going natural means using ALL NATURAL products in your hair. I will give you some short cuts until you get your supplies. To start, you can go to Wal-mart or your local food store and get olive oil or coconut oil. I don’t use virgin olive oil because it has such a strong smell. I use Wal-mart’s generic pure olive oil.
Rule number two is STOP using shampoo to wash your hair. Until you feel comfortable making your own shampoo I suggest using only conditioner, it can be the brand you are using now but only use the conditioner DON’T USE SHAMPOO it strips all the natural oils from your hair. If I don’t feel like making my own shampoo I use Mane ‘n Tail Deep Moisturizing conditioner.
Wash your hair the same way you would with shampoo but don’t expect any suds or bubbles. Remember suds and bubbles are the enemy. Depending on how often you wash your hair you will have to strip the build up every eighth shampooing using a plain apple cider vinegar and distilled water solution. This not only strips build up but it helps seal the hair shaft and gives the hair a natural shine we girls with ACH always admired of girls with Wash n go hair.
That’s a start there will be more later…Be Blessed
